Who is The Virginia Coast Chorus?

The Virginia Coast Chorus is a membership organization of women who sing in the barbershop style of a cappella music. We are a competing chorus in our region with Sweet Adelines International. The Sweet Adeline community is a diverse community of singers of all ages and abilities who come together through their love of barbershop music and stay together for the enduring friendships as a result of singing in harmony.

We meet weekly on Tuesday nights to sing, learn music, vocal production and performance skills.   

Our members come from various backgrounds, from teachers to government workers, health professionals to stay-at-home moms. We are often out in the community singing at nursing homes, corporate Holiday parties, and the like.

Education is a large component of what we do within the Sweet Adeline organization and for the members of Virginia Coast. Education is part of every rehearsal, and regional and international educational events are held throughout the year. Virginia Coast has developed its own entertaining program to educate interested groups about the barbershop style (one such event is pictured below). On April 26, 2025, Virginia Coast earned 2nd place small chorus division medal(5:12:31), 5th place overall chorus medal (5:19), the Roger Tarpy Most Improved Chorus Award (with a 37 point increase in our score)(5:08:35), AND at the end of the night we were informed we won The Pat Leveille Most Improved in Sound Award.

The joy on our Directors faces (below) will never be forgotten!
